What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy includes, massage, soft tissue techniques, joint manipulation and mobilisation, rehabilitation / exercise therapy and electrotherapy modalities. Treatment is aimed at rehabilitating the patient by reducing pain and swelling where necessary, and restoring normal movement and function following an injury or long illness.

MASSAGE continues to have a place here at the clinic because of the benefits it brings. It instils feelings of confidence and well being in the patient, and has a direct therapeutic effect of muscle relaxation and tension reduction.

JOINT MANIPULATION/MOBILISATION can also be used as a treatment technique in combination with massage or by itself. The aims of this treatment are to restore normal ranges of movement, reduce pain and stiffness and ultimately regain function.

REHABILITATION / EXERCISE THERAPY is the most important aspect to all physiotherapy treatments. Used in conjunction with treatment, it is essential that the patient is taught the most effective and appropriate exercises in order to regain and maintain movement and strength.

ELECTROTHERAPY MODALITIES are also used to enhance and improve the treatment and rehabilitation process. These modalities are essentially aimed at pain-relief, but also provide a therapeutic effect, so as to speed up the recovery process. These modalities include; Short Wave Diathermy, TENS, Interferential, Muscle stimulation and Ultrasound.
